Kramat Jati Overhauls Sidewalks for Shared Convenience

Some 50 personnel have been mobilized to revitalize the sidewalks and designated premises of the Kramat Jati Lokbin on Jalan Raya Bogor, East Jakarta. This structural refurbishment serves as a critical precursor to the strategic relocation of 193 fish vendors to the facility.

Kramat Jati Sub-district Head, Kamal Alatas said that the upgrades were launched following seamless coordination with the East Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency. It is designed to ensure that the infrastructure is fully optimized ahead of the transition of vendors currently operating along the Jalan Raya Bogor area.

“We're currently fast-tracking the enhancement of essential infrastructure and utility frameworks. Operations commenced yesterday, and we have made an ambitious timeline to finalize the project by the end of this week,” he expressed, Thursday (8/27).

He explained that the restoration efforts are primarily focused on revitalizing infrastructure that has fallen into disrepair. Besides leveling undulating sidewalks to ensure pedestrian safety, personnel are systematically replacing fractured paving blocks with new materials.

"We're also improving the front yard area of the Lokbin, which will be used as a parking area," he explained.

He went to say that the restoration efforts are strategically focused on revitalizing infrastructure that has fallen into disrepair. In addition to leveling undulating sidewalks to ensure pedestrian safety, crews are systematically replacing fractured paving blocks.

Further, the weathered curbs are receiving a fresh coat of paint to enhance the district’s aesthetic appeal. This comprehensive facelift is designed to foster a safer, more hospitable environment for vendors, patrons, and the general public navigating the Jalan Raya Bogor area.

“The overarching plan is to accommodate 193 fish vendors in this facility. Our goal is to ensure these merchants can sustain their livelihoods in a structured environment, effectively clearing the sidewalks and main thoroughfares of unauthorized street trading,” Alatas concluded.

Meanwhile, one of the motorists, Helmi lauded the relocation initiative, expressing optimism that the move would finally alleviate the persistent congestion that has long plagued the area.

“Traffic usually gets congested from late afternoon through the evening, stretching from the Cililitan intersection to Lippo Mall Kramat Jati. The cause is the large number of street vendors on the sidewalks and the roadway itself,” he stated.
